ok, I got directions from a friend how to do this, but I dont remember if he told me to tape the side that u can see, or the opposite side. Can ne1 clarify? Thanks!

Im sorry for double post, guess just a lil excited, working at night is tough but have to do it lol. Do I tape and mold off of the side that u can see, or tape and mold off of the side that is facing the roof? Im thinking the side that I see, but want to double check!

Tape the side you can see if you are making a mold. I've seen people who just use the headliner as the base and apply resin, then fiberglass that. I think this would be much easier than making a mold. Also, if you take it out of your car, make sure yo reinstall it once it has dried slightly, since it will shrink once it cures and will not fit properly. Good luck.

ok so you are saying that if I want to do this without making a mold to tape the backside as it will shrink?? Yes I will be taking the headliner out of my car, but I am semi new to fiberglass and I dont understand what you mean by slimmatic wrote:

what he means is that as fiberglass cures on a large piece like a headliner, it will twist and warp all to hell if it is not supporrted properly...build a jig to hold the head liner out of the car, so you can work on it and not have to worry about installing it before it cures...

ok I must be really stupid or something, as I am not understanding exactly what to do here, if I just tin foil and masking tape it and lay down glass it will warp? correct? Could I lay a board across the headliner and pu weight on top of it to keep it even? Would this make it not warp? Damn I feel idiotic or misinterpreted my friends explanation or he left a few things out. I'm sorry everyone for being such a P.I.T.A.! Please help is greatly appreciated!

No, actually i did not say anything about that backside. You will not want to make a mold, since it will be a ton more work for you. Just apply resin to the headliner, then after it dries enough so that you can handle it, reinstall it so that when it dried all the way it will fit. Otherwise, it will shrink/warp and will no longer fit.

I believe we did not mention of foil or tape. Apply resin directly to the headliner.

GRANTED, it would be a real bear to do it this way, but "if" you can figure a way to apply the resin to the headliner while it's still in the car, wouldn't that be the most accurate way for it to hold it's shape? Maybe a paint roller? Just a thought, don't know if it'd be realistic or not, never tried anything like that!

when u take the headliner out to glass, which is highly recommended, how do u plan on putting it back into the car? thru the windshield? ------------- would u like your chicken original or extra crispy?

no I have a 94 Suzuki Sidekick, which I am able to take the headliner in and out through the back tailgate door so there are no problems with that.
