First project and what I am wanting to accomplish is reshaping a defroster plenum with a FG section.  My question is this - Instead of using fleece for the initial shape, can I just use the FG mesh?  I am going to aluminum foil and tape the plenum to use as the mold and then rivet it all together as it is a plastic to FG and it will be easier.  Any thoughts?  I will post pictures after I start it - if that will make it easier to understand.  Just doesn't have the cool factor as enclosures and amp racks tho.

It is the "box" that runs from the cowl section of my Jeep to the heater box on the firewall.  The box runs from below the vent on the cowl over to the passenger side and down into the deater box to supply the defroster and heater with fresh air.  It is in the way and I have to reshape it.

if your gonna use your existing plenum as a basic shape, then no you do not need fleece. Just resin over the aluminum foil and add your matting. Make sure to build a few layers, making sure the shape holds up.

you are going to need soomethiing to hold the fiberrrglass in its place it is curing, foam or somethiing...what does the reshaping involve? cuttiing out piecees or adding pieces?

a plenum is the main /trunk line off the heater, the one all the other heating/ cooling vents run off of...LOL in a car i am not sure if it called a plenum...but to people in the HVAC industry it is the piece of steel directly above your furnace

I am basically rebuilding the part that turns down into the heater box to make it narrower.  So I will be cutting out a piece and then FG a section to rivet it back together in the shape that I want. I think that I got the answer that I was looking for. 

I design aeration blowers and we call them plenums!  I have no idea what the actual part would be called!! LOL  Sorry for the confusion.

ok how do you pronounce plenums... is it like "FLUH NUMS" OR "PUHLEE NUMS" help me out here.

" PLEN --- NUMS " is how I was told to pronounce this. Ithe term is also used in the intake manifold for vehicles.

Hey ojtv8cj, what about using thin metal flashing?  Its bendable, easily cut to shape, and when you get it into the founding symmetry your construction requires, wrap it in FG for closing the gaps as well as for overall structural integrity?
