how do actuators work? im building a false floor and i want to have a motorized door pop up so i will be able to reach my car jack.. any suggestions? i believe an actuator is what would work but i dont have any clue what they are/do

most of the time in the automotive industry a 2 wire actuator is used for adding power door locks....it works by either pushing or pulling the object...if you pulse ground to either of the wires it will push or pull......if you wanted an actuator to actually lift up a door of some sort, you need to search for a linear actuator, which would have a longer play in it....similar to the springs in a strom door or the hatchback of a car, only motorised.GL

here is a pic of a standard 2wire actuator I installed on a 98 cavalier to add power locks to an alarm

I think hes talking about linear actuators rather than the 2 wire door solenoids/actuators
