This is my first attempt at Glassing. I made this hoping to have it painted to match my car exterior. Lots of work and reading to get me to the point I am at now. Thanks to all that post here as you guys give lots of inspiration and quality feedback. Let me know what you guys think.

Ready for Bondo then SANDING, then maybe more Bondo if needed then SAND some more. Painting first week of July.

Looks pretty good so far to me. How are you going to take care of those back corners that stick out like a sore thumb? Lots of bondo? thats a huge box. lol. What made you go with one big one instead of sectioning it down the middle? Just curious thats all.

The cut outs in the top corners are made like that to fit in the back trunk flush under the back strut area. The box is built into two chambers and there is a middle piece seperating the two from the other two subs, so a left and right.

Looks good so far. Personally I think the angles on the lower subs are a little harsh. Also you might consider throwing in some bracing from the front to back on each side (where the front is flat).

I am using 4 Phoenix Gold 10" subs for Drivers and a McIntosh 4X100 Watt Amp. Sounds great in the pre box I had non fibreglass of course.

As per the stiffening of the box. I have the center piece of MDF 3/4" that goes from front to back that should provide a STIFF response. The box is solid as heck for the structure itself on the outside. Especially in the middle portion where I put two extra layers of glass, top and front.

Painting the box the same as the factory paint on the outside which is BLACK/ clearcoated like crazy.  Can't wait to finally put this bad boy in the car and fire it up.  Been a LONG project.

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

For a first timer, you had me fooled.  Excellent looking box.  One question though, how did you calculate the air space inside the enclosure before you layed the fleece or Fglass over it?  You know, so each woofer is slapping around the air properly.

Thanks for the replies again guys.

I used the calculation of each sub needing .5 - 2 Cubic feet each, and there is 2.75 cu feet per side for the subs. I am not sure the exact sound it will produce until them subs are in. But honestly, I just can't wait to hear the BOOM BOOM again. Keep you all posted on the sanding, sanding and paint as it goes along.

Well, your overall design is solid.  I am sure it will sound like what your expecting.  Damn man, good job again for a first timer.  I love shots, post as many shots of your project you can.

Anyone ever use the Bondo that is Sun Hardened? I am trying this NEW REVOLUTIONARY material out and it goes on nice and easy. Hardly any mess and spreads very smooth. Its clear when it dries up pretty much except if you have little blobs then its a yellowish colour. Wondering if this was a good choice for the final coats. Anyone got experience with this stuff???

Thanks

quick question bud, I am having probs on my build up right now and cant get the dowels to stick and not move, what did you use to hold down your dowels and speaker mounts?

Lots of HOT GLUE STICKS. Just I had my wife hold the rods. Like she's never done that before for me!!! (He He) but then it was easy so make sure you have a good glue gun and dowel alreaady cut to size then go to it. Good luck.

Try using more dowels then. How many speakers and what size are you trying. Maybe start a new thread as this is now off topic here or PM me.
