I've always been told it's pretty much like fiberglass...either way good luck finding carbon at a fair price. From my understanding the prices have gone WAY up because of a shortage.

CF is hard to come by atm, the only thing with carbon fivre is you have to clear coat it, and the better quality and UV resisant  clears cost quite alot, not to mention the current price of matting

There are many ways to accomplish working with CarbonFiber.  If you want to save money, then yes, you can use all the fiberglass you want / need, then lay a layer or two of carbon fiber on top to have the "look," but if you are building something like a hood of a car and want it to be strong yet have lite weight, I would use all carbon fiber, yet the price can be expensive.

Currently, there is a bit of a shortage in the industry for carbon fiber

Do not panic...

read this recent article from Fibre Glast Carbon Fiber Shortage Update

What is your reason for wanting to use CarbonFiber?

If you are using it for it's lite weight properties and strength, for now, I would recommend the kevlar materlal because of the shortage.

If you are wanting to use it for the reasons mentioned and for the finish and look of it.  I would be patient and either pay for it and wait for it to become available, or just simply wait.

If that is the case, go ahead and order it.  Most places that sell it will ship it when it becomes available.  Chances are you are not going to purchase a roll of it, so that should make it easier to get from some places.
