My son recently purchases a 1995 Eclipse. He also has a 95 Talon (both non turbo). We are using one as a parts car to build the other and to have spare parts. The problem we have run into is the interior of both cars have been painted...ie vinyl trim, dash door panels etc. We have tried to repaint but nothing seems to adhere. We tried sanding before painting still nothing works. What options do I have left to salvage these parts and make them work. I have fiberglass cloth but from reading posts this may not be the answer either. I am a noob so I need step by step directions. Also how do you remove the shoulder harness from the pillar, so that we may put a 4 point harness in. thanks Dale ------------- If your going to be STUPID you need to be tough or REAL fast.

Whats the possibility of covering the panels in vinyl or leather? What would this take to do and where do I find the suppliers.

Unless your gonna do the upholstery work yourself, and put up with it looking like poo.....I would paint the stuff again. Not to mention, it will save you hundereds of dollars too.

make sure you sand it with about a 180-220grit sand paper as you dont want to take of to much only the surface then use primer(must ) paint ( i used color match from canadian tire )and clear coat i have done this to a friends 95 eclpise i painted the trim around the radio and the vents and it is still looking good almost two years later

JUst make sure that you use the proper products to do the job. Many people do not know that they are suppose to use a plastic preping solvent before primer and also to use a flexible primer and paint on the plastic parts ( plastic does flex ). Allowing the proper cure time also will help with the longevity of the finish.

To remove the should harness from the pillar, I believe you are going to need a very large Torx bit to remove that, check over at Home Depot or Sears (Craftsman) for it, at least remove the plastic shell covering it to see what it requires, usually it is Torx

As stated in my original post ....both of the interiors had been painted before we got them ,With what kinda of paint I dont have a clue other than I know this is where the problem lies due to it not adhereing. To get rid of the original will require sanding until entire piece is baby but* smooth. Which is not I problem , but I dont want to repaint until I'm sure what to prep with and what brand of paint will work. I will have son take pics of progress . Also the dash will have to be refinished...removal of the covering and the FG it?

Yea, for the FG the dash, read the post that is going on right now, the tips in that thread will most likely be the same for you.

A trick to get those big torx screws out is gather up your flat head screw drivers and find one that fits snugly in two of the "tips of the star". Usually you can get them out that way.

The problem is not the screw it finding out HOW it is attatched to the piller. This is an adjustable shoulder belt and is enclosed. I can't find the screw to remove it.

Ah, ok. Damn it is hard to say without seeing it in a photo.
All I can say now with what you told me is try to find a way to pop the panel off.
Everything is usually held is place with glue, screws, clips, or/and black magic, but black magic is rarely used on vehicles after 1979.

Hey dalemilam58, are you wanting to go back with the factory color on the dash pieces or go with something custom. If custom, take jeff's advice and use a good solvent to take off all the crap from the dash, a plastic promoter etc.... Search some of the forums and you will find plenty of information. If you just want to go back to factory look, or just change the color of the factory dye, go to SEM's website and you can buy the dye that just sprays over the panel. You will have to clean it real good, but it is very easy and straight forward. I use it often to change the color of interiors for people who dont want the usual factory color. ------------- davedyer79
