hey guys

i just registered and have been reading all i can on fibreglass sub enclosures and have read heaps of threads on this here forum and am very greatful for all the helpful articles you guys have written!

but my question today is regarding the speaker rings

in all of the articles it shows the rings before the fleece is applied. then after the sub is installed. so cant see a picture to answer my question

my understanding is. you construct the speaker rings using the large and small rings ontop of eachother then lay the fleece and glass over it all except where the speaker hole is.

once this is done do you cut out the fleece/glass that is over the outter/higher ring then screw the sub to the un touched inner ring? is this what you refer to for flush mounting? as im not concerned wether the sub is flush or not (it is a pair of JL audio 15" 15w0 from memory (retail for $350AUD )

can you use just a single ring or will the fibreglass layed over the ring mess up the mounting surface hence why you state to use 2 rings?

if sombody can post an image or even a mspaint picture of where the matting and fleece and mdf rings go that would be handy!!

just dont want to screw up my latest project (2x70ltr enclosures arnt cheap to build again!)

Yeah you're right with flushmounting. When you make the top ring, you make it as thick as your subs mounts to make sure it is flush. But if you're not interested in flush mounting you can just make a single ring. Thats what i did on my first project. All you do fiberglass over it, then cut out the hole. The reason most people dont put fiberglass over the hole is to save money and time, since you're just going to cut that part out later. Heres a pic right after i cut the hole out.

Saw, what material is that around the piece in the picture. It looks soft, but I cannot think of the name of it. I am tired right now without a full breakfast too.
