hey guys i need your opinion im thining about building a center console for my 2003 chevy silverado extended cab ls and i would like suggestions. i allready have two merlon 10" under my back seat in seperate sealed boxes (they nead little air space) i wanted to build a center console by taking the middle part of the front seat out and building the console. i was thinking about building the console were the seat is originaly but make it longer than the seat, all the way to the dash i wanted to put two more 10" on the sides of the consoles by the feet i also wanted to put a screen with a back up camera were the console meats the dash and another screen in the back. then i wana cover it in fiberglasss and match the paint to my truck exterior. can you guys visualise it? do you think itll work fine?

please post comments or any ideas since im thinking of doing this in about two weeks.

Sounds good ... 'cept I'd install the subs inside the console, firing down into the floor. Space 'em up off the floor a bit ... you'll have to experiment with the correct distance. Once you get it right, the impact will be amazing. And the speakers will live longer - they won't get the life kicked out of 'em!

Cup Holders!

Coin Pocket!

I'd also incorporate a Center Channel Speaker above or below the front screen. This may require you to upgrade a bunch of the other gear in your system, but it's really worth it if you plan to do some serious movie watching in the truck.

Is this truck a daily driver or a show truck? If a DD, do you have kids back there that will be using the rear screen? If not, I'd forget about the rear screen. Spend the coin someplace else in the truck.

As for the pain job, I'd avoid painting the new console to match the exterior unless ALOT of the rest of the interior is also colormatched to the exterior. If you don't plan to paint a bunch of other interior parts to match the exterior, make the new console blend with the existing interior coloring & textures.

All things being equal, ie, you build the enclosures correctly & experiment with placement in order to get the correct spacing off the floor, the down-firing subs will transfer the bass better. Build the enclosures first. Install the Sub Amp. Play around w/ the placement. Take your time. Once you get it right, build the console around the enclosures.

Easy-peesy, Japaneesy!!

I think you are going to be quite pleased with the outcome. That is a lot of work, but very rewarding when it is all said and done. Do not forget install pics. posted_image

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
