What does everyone think?  This is my first dash I have built.  Any questions? Comments?  You can also go to www.undefinedcustoms.com/memberrides/daryl.html to see more detailed pictures of everything as well as other things I have done.

That looks great - especially for your first dash.

i love the way it came out man... couple questions though cuz im trying to make a custom dash along with door panels and such.. how do u get the final product to attach to where the stock one once was? im a begginer as well and have never done any fiberglassing at all... im trying to read up on everything before actually doin it.. also wondering how much u spent to make your dash and about how long it took... thx

Very very nice job on the dash. Hard to believe it is your first. Nice skeletal work as well. Only thing I would have done different if I were going to leave the EQ up in front out in the open; I would paint it to match so it would not stick out visually so much.

I used  the factory mounting brackets on the bottom of the dash to connect it there and if you will look at the sides of the dash, you will notice that there are removeable panels that let you access behind the dash.  I made some brackets to mout the top.  I think I ended up spending about.......maybe $200 not including the paint or sandpaper or anything like that.  You just have to make sure that everything is really strong because there can be alot of movement and jolts being mounted where it is.  As for how long it took.....well it took me a while to get the design that I wanted but actually building the framework....I probably worked on it for a day.  Wrapping and glassing took about a day.  Bondo sanding took about a day.  Then I used a polyester primer and sanded that....that took a while.  Don't use evercoat polyester primer.....it seems to gum up paper really bad and takes forever.  After that I used reguar primer and it took a few hours to sand all of it down.  Then just cleaned it off and painted it.  That is the first thing I have ever painted too.  So it took me 2 trys on that LOL   But I think it turned out really well.  I probably had about 40+ hours in it.  Just be prepared to do ALOT of hand sanding.  I wasn't able to get to anything with a DA on mine.  Anyway...I appreciate the comment

I am not completely through with the interior.  I still have to build door panels and an amp rack.  I am also going to have my seats/headliner/ and visors recovered.  The audio and gauges aren't even hooked up yet.  I just stuck it in there to get some pictures and to take it to our show.  I'm planning on getting the truck media blasted and repainting it so I will be repainting everyhing else to match as well.

I placed the speakers ther because I am really into Sound Q.  You should hear them where they are.  How detailed everything is.  I placed the speakers and listened to the before I was completely through with the dash and I wish you could hear it.  Center vocals are dead on.  Very realistic.

Good good. One thing to suggest when responding to a statement someone made. Use the QUOTE button in the upper right of the box. It will automatically capture what the member said and place it in the reply window allowing you to type under it with a response or comment.

How did you compensate for time alignment?

Sorry it took me so long to reply.  I have time alignment built in my head unit.  I am using the old Alpine CDA-7998  Best head unit alpine ever made....except for the F#1 stuff anyway.

very nice work...i especially like how you mounted the speakers from the rear as oposed to showing the screws and what not from the front...as you have shown, a little extra planing always pays off in the end..

nice work..

There might be one or two old timers out there who might disagree on your "best alpine head ever" statement.   Just picking at you.  Letting you know I'm on here now.  Your stuff keeps getting better and better.  LATER.

Shouldn't it be strickaccord?  Anyway...I just got through painting that box that I built.  I ended up painting it House of Kolor Snowhite Pearl like what is on my truck.  Still debating on what color carpet to put on the sides, back, and bottom though.  I don't have any black left over and couldn't find any in town.  I do have a roll of grey and tan though....what do you think?

Thanks.  It's kinda funny.  I loved the way the frame looked in the truck.  I really hated to cover it up LOL

Did you only use one piece of fleece to cover up the frame work? Seems like the fleece would have a hard time conforming to everything because of how many pieces it had to wrap around. How did u do it?

Yeah, I just used one piece.  To start off I stapled the fleece to the top side of the dash and then pulled it down over everything.  I also stapled throughout the frame.  If you look close on the picture with the fleece you can tell.

I never said it was my first time with fiberglass, but it was my first dash and console.  My first thing in fiberglass was the black box with the 4 12's in it.
