1971 Opel GT, 1.9l engine, 4sp tranny. make and model. prolly won't mean much to you, since its an antique import that didn't get much hype.

This is the shtick:

i'm moving thrings around in the dash to make room for a screen, a head unit, and a switch assembly to control all that carrying on that wasn't originaly in the design at all for the car.

this is the current issue. i've taken a component of the dash, a guage recess, and placed it elsewhere. its not a simple cut and glue tho, as its tilted in seat now, and there's a very large gap that needs to be filled. my thought is the following:

masking tap, over the gap, olding down a peice of aluminum foil or wax paper, and build up till glass is the thickness of the dash. i'm just considering the release material, as i don't want to have to grind the face side to glass it smooth at a later date.

if anyone has suggestions to build this gap up it'd be appreciated.

a bit of information : this is a hard plastic dashpanel. it has no cloths, woods or other components at the state i've taken it down to. its antique sure, but i'll cut it as much as i need to in order to build this idea up. give me 30 minutes and i'll get some photos hosted on the above address right on the index page for you guys.

Use a skeleton rib to provide the shape, and then go for it.

Using small strips of MDF or similar material making a general "rib" or outline of the area, stretch fabric over it, and glass it, etc...

Refer to the third shot to see how it was fabric'd.
