This is a repost. The first time I submitted it, it was deleted. Why?

Anyways, I am imp  and I'm new. First post.

I have a 2004 Impala LS I will be changing the center of my dash. I already have an idea of how I want to do it, but I want some of your opinions. Here we go.

This is the dash in question. This picture is of a base model Impala but the part I want to glass is exactly the same in my LS.

Here is a closeup section of the part I will be glassing.

This is what I want to do. The area highlighted in red is where i will put a screen. The area in blue will be my switches for various things on my car. The green section will be my HU. The HVAC controls will be relocated to the glove box. See picture below.

The look I'm going for will have this whole section of the dash, (from the top of the factory radio to the bottom of the HVAC controls) pertrude out and angle towards the driver slightly. Note that the face of my dash is one piece from the driver side door to the passenger side door. This makes it very easy to work with once it has been removed.

I was thinking of doing it like this: Make "frames" for the Screen, HU, and Switches from MDF. Cut some wooden dowels to the desired length to gain that angle I want. Glue the dowels to the dash and glue the frames (or frame if I just make one big one with different sections) to the dowels. Pull fleece over the skeleton and then.....

This is my biggest question. Will the glass adhere to the plastic? If not, can't i scuff up the plastic and drill holes in it...then glass from both sides so that they adhere to one another?

I also want to know if the part where the glass meets the plastic can be sanded down good enough so that it looks like one piece, seemless? I am going to paint the entire dash. I don't want to glass my whole dash, but I want my whole dash to have that glassed look. Does this make sense? I'm trying my best to explain it. Please feel free to asked more detailed questions. Thanks in advance.

Fiberglass won't adhere to plastic, but you can always drill holes in plastic...just like you said yourself. Although, I'm not sure whether or not paint will crack at the edges.

you can scuff it and you plastic prep on the whole dash area you want to glass and paint and you shouldnt have any problems with cracking if its not going to be a moving part or flex much

before you glass the dash itself, try making a mount for the screen then making a glassed bezel then the same for the other part...cant go wrong that way and its easier
