I have just acquired a set of component system speakers including the two crossovers two speakers and two tweeters and i was wondering how to modify the existing door panel to make them fit. Also I have no idea how to wire these types of speakers through the crossover system.

I have a 93' grandcherokee and was thinkin of puttin this set in the front door panels.

you COULD tape off the area you'd like to mount it to, fiber that, remove the fiber, trim, build a speaker ring and mount it via dowels to the fiber panel you have, create a few mounting points that go down through the existing panel, some of them GM christmas tree clips or whatever, fleece, glass, bondo sand paint.

or. you could redesign the entire door. thats what i'm doing, antique 71 german import... hmm. this sit should still work. www.lofonline.com/gt . anyways, the door panels are vinyl wrapped over cardboard. needless to say the last 35 years has been less than forgiving and i need to create panels from scratch with my components in em.

in this case, you go to the junkyard, get panels, strip them clean, glass moulds or whatever to prep the surface, build up with mdf, steel if you're working around armrests or door handles, fleece, glass, and soforth and so-on.

some ideas for you there.

I like the taping idea..seeing as they will sit alot deeper than the original stock speakers to make it deeper i was thinking of building up a surface out of something and then taping over and fibering that..

would that work?

and is there a rule to how deep i want to go?

As long as the speakers have the clearence they need phisically it will be deep enough. If you could post the type of speakers and crossovers it will be easier to explain how to wire them up. The taping off and building up from there seems like the best idea. If your new to fiberglassing building a completely new panel might be a bit advanced for you. Also it depends on if you want to keep the stock look of the vehicle or if you want to change the look compleatly.
