Does anyone ever use a "base layer" of Bondo first before applying a higher quality filler like Rage .  I just thought it would save a lil money.  Any problems that could arise? (chemical, sanding, quality)

I can't see there beign a problem with using Bondo first then Rage afterwards. Just make sure that you only sand the base coat to a 36 grit finish so that the Rage has something to bite into.
