Why not ?? The use of an orbital sander along with a hand sander will help you feel out rough spots. When using the fine sand paper, I use my hands for the final sanding to feel for bumps or rough spots. I suggest using a pnuematic sander and start with 60 grit paper and work your way down to 600.

Depending on what technique you are using powed sanders are fine for the coarse grits.  For the final fine grits I sugest doing it by hand.  The finished product will look the same either way, the choice is yours.

the only real time that you shouldn't use a sander is when you are color sanding.

what I mean by that for those who don't know is, after you paint and shoot your clear, you WILL get a little bit of wavyness to it. all you have to do is sand it with a 1500-2000 grit and buff it out......installguy509
