hi, i just have finish my third pillar gauge pod, i have allready post another one i made, so now i want to show you guys, my third creation :P :P
so here we go.
first i took the stock pillar cover out of the car.

and cover it with masking tape.

next comes the fiberglass fun...........

this is how it looks when i took the fiberglass piece off.

and this is how it looks after trim all the edges, here you can see the fg piece and the original piece.

the pods that i use,are from a generic pillar gauge pod, (i think it was made for a mazda miata). i put hotglue them temporarly to the pillar.

i use polyurethane foam to fill those empty spaces.

and the put some fiberglass layers.

so then comes bondo time, and sanding, sanding a lot, here you can see the piece with bondo and half primed.

and finally i use pick up bed liner to get a stock interior look, and thats all :P

i will put some installed pics sonn.
bye.
now is attached with nothing, just a little bit of pressure :P but i think im going to mount it with some metal clips from the original pillar
so i have to figure that out yet.
i was thinking about using that sort of foam to build up the geometry within a wirefram design for my door panels i'm working on. attach mdf, and metal framework for arm rests, fill and file off the foams, and glass that all. do you think it'd work on a larger scale like mine?
sure, why not, this foam is great for this kind of works, you can buy this foam in blocks, that way is easier to work with it in a large scale like you want.
is not hard to mold it, a metal saw blade, or a knife, and sand paper is enough to shape the foam.
so go ahead an ty it.
good luck
thnks for the great post.. i was actually doing the same thing for my car using the great pictures and step by step way you did yours.... i was wondering when the time car to separate the mold.. how did you do it.. am i having difficulties because the fg and resin isnt dry enough.... let me know thanks
that looks nice. you just give me a idea using that foam.
-------------

i have one question how does the new fiberglass pillar fit in the old spot if you mold the piller on the outside of the old would it not be bigger or does it shrink
nice work though love the bedliner
