Hello all,
i have a question, well more of a brainstorming operation. I have a 95 civic and i dynamated my trunk, sound is perfect!. BUT my spoiler rattles because its hollow.. i was thinking of insulating it, but im not sure if it would affect the lighting, because i have a strip across the spoiler that is my brake indicator.. anyone have any ideas or suggestions in order or fixing this..

Thanks in advance

Is the rattle coming from in the spoiler or is it coming from where it meets the trunk?

If it is inside then you may be able to pull the light out and use some expanding foam inside of it. Be careful not to over fill because it will expand out.

What kind of expanding foam are you planning on using? if you are filling a smaller spoiler, I found that using great stuff for windows and doors work best since the expansion is very soft and won't apply pressure to the spoiler's parts.

Another thing to consider is the spoiler's design... is the rattling coming from a jointed area? if it is something near the base, have you checked for anything loose inside it (maybe a nut fell off)

Well whatever is the fix, I hope all goes well.

yea i used great stuff for my trunk, i will probably do the same
i believe its the actual spoiler cause when i press down in the middle the rattling stops.
when i take it apart i will see if the inside is hollow

thanks mann

if it is a muli-part spoiler, my guess then would be to check the joints between parts. Insulate them with like a foam gasket and see if that works first.

By the way, I'm a girl

i had the same problem with my 95 eclipse.  i ended up using foam tape where the spoiler bolts onto the hatchlid and it stopped.  try that first and if it doesn't then instead of foam, use sand in the hollows of the spoiler.  expand-a-foam can swell when it gets hot and can crack the spoiler if it's filled completely.  just seal off any holes with clear silicone then fill it with sterile sand.  not only will it fill the hollow without worry about damage or mess, but sand also is a natural sound insulator as well.

That will also depend on what expanding foam he uses too. Great Stuf for Windows and Doors is an excellent product for such a case. It is designed to minimize pressure on anything it is expanded on. and if he is just looking to eliminate washer and bolt rattle, look into tightening them first then maybe add the foam.

just a thought...

yea bellsracer is correct, thats why i used it on my trunk..
