I just recently pulled the dash apart and noticed how easy, and nice looking it would be to FG a 7 or so inch screen on the cover of my pass. airbag. However, my significant other does not want me to remove the airbag (doh). I did notice that when the airbag deploys, the cover moves along a top hinge upwards toward the windshield. my question is... if I were to FG the screen to the cover and only the cover, would the cover still be able to rotate upwards in case the airbags were to go off... or would the screen become a shooting projectile towards the passanger?
Thanks

Don't do it, at the rate that airbags pop and how they pop, if there is interference from something such as the lcd, it would pose a serious safety hazard. It'll vary from vehicle to vehicle, but here is what I see:

1) The airbag deploys hurling the lcd and fg body at the passenger and then compressing the just launched projectiles into the passenger.

2) The FG structure holds together and prevents the airbag to pop properly, but wait, the expanding gas needs to go somewhere, so the airbag deploys downward crushing the passenger's legs and they end up slamming their face into the fg structure and screen.

3) Depending on the airbag, the bag deploys flipping the fg up and to the windshield, the passenger hits onto the airbag, but the bag is shallow now because the space between the airbag and the windshield is taken up by the FG.

In summary, not a good idea and definitely something I would not do.

edit: sorry if I seemed snappy there. I didn't mean to be

yea, i am very hesitant on it as well. I think i'll just either take the airbag out, or leave out the screen. It would have just been a realy nice first FG job (fairly easy start)
Oh well... safety is of #1 priority
