Well, here we go. I want to build a ported box for my current setup.

I have an Ultra Linear UL1202 putting out a supposed 600 watts RMS x 2 @2ohms. I bet its closer around 300 per channel (its a class a/b amp). Anyway, and my subs are Swiss Audio 12", 500 Watt RMS's , wired at 2 ohms. They are in a sealed box, with about .9 cubic feet per chamber. Oh, and I drive a 1995 Grand Prix, with about 9 cube feet trunk space to work with.

From what I understand, building a (properly tuned, of course) ported box will make my subs more efficient, especially with lower tones. This would be great, as most of my music is rap or rock.

Now, I am pretty much loss with designing the box. I have read a few tutorials, but none of them really helped me. Actually building the box won't be a problem...My friend will help me build him, but i don't trust him with the mathematical part.

My sub's manual says that I need 2.5 cube feet per chamber, with a 12.56 sq-inch port size, with 8.75" port length (the port displacement should be .0635). Tuned at 35 hz. Here is a pic of the sub's parameters.

Any help / designs would be greatly appreciated.

Well you definitely have enough air space in the vehicle, but now there are the aesthetic and architectual questions that we need if you would like a design from us:

1) What style of box are you looking for? Wedge, Wedge II, Square, Cylinder, Rectangle? Is it wood or fiberglass?

2) What is the maximum size we can design for you? In other words, how tall is the inside of the trunk? How wide is it? How far apart are the trunk lid hinges (if they go down while the trunk is closed as in most cars)

Thank you again for looking into this for me; I'm sure there is plenty of other stuff you could've been doing :)

A rectangle box would be the easiest to build, so i think i should stick with that.

I have 39" wide, 24" deep, and about 16" tall to work with.

edit: crap. Um...I'll have to see about my trunk lid hinges tomorrow morning (i'm going to bed right now.) They shouldn't be a problem, but I'll confirm tomorrow when i get up.

Just as long as we keep the width across the trunk around 36", we should remain inside the trunk lid arms. I calculated it out, and it brings the grand space total to about 8 cube feet. This shouldn't be a problem as the recommended enclosure size was about 5 cube feet.

So, the max, workable dimensions: 36" across trunk X 24" deep X 16" high

I was about to get started when I realized I don't know how many subs you planned on using... I would assume that you are going for the typical 2 sub set but before I waste any time or whatnot... How many are you looking at stuffing into there?

again, i appreciate you looking into this for me.

Yes, I'm going to be using two, 12" Swiss Audio subs. The manual, which has all of the parameters, is here: https://www.swissaudioinc.com/images/manuals/2006/Woofers/SWP%20Manual.pdf

SWP125W is the model :)

I am SOOOO SORRY!            >.<            >.<

Your overall dimensions will be 36 x 15 x 22. Use 3/4 inch MDF for material. Divide the box down the middle with a 3/4 board.

Each half of the box will need a port that is 4x3 inches or 2x6 inches as the inside diameters (outside diameters: 5.5x4.5 or 3.5x7.5) (2 ports total) that is a total of 8 inches deep. So remember that if you cut the hole into the box and then add the port tunnel to the back of the box panel, you'll be making the tunnel itself 8 inches long.

That should take care of your box and it should hit pretty hard.

Sorry for the lateness.
