I need a wireless signaling device mounted on my tractor to alert me of incoming cellular calls. I need to keep the phone in my pocket to protect it from dirt and vibration. The vibrate function of the phone itself isn't strong enough to alert me and the ringer isn't nearly loud enough to be heard while working the tractor. I am thinking maybe a light mounted on the hood and pointed at my face or a horn. I have been searching the internet for such a device or ideas to construct my own without much luck. I was hoping for an automotive type relay that could be energized by a bluetooth signal from my phone but I don't think such a relay exists. There must be a wireless solution to this problem. Any ideas?

Have you tried an in-ear bluetooth device.  I think they ring through the earpiece.

yes, I have tried earpieces and headsets. While working the tractor, I get bounced around alot and the earpieces won't stay in place. My blue parrot headset doesn't ring or vibrate and becomes very uncomfortable in the hot summer sun. It has been miserably hot down here in the South this summer. We have had many days with a heat index at 112 degrees.

I know many people have a device that blows the horn for incoming calls. My tractor doesn't have a horn but I can easily add one. That would work great for my application. Does anybody here know what those devices are called, how they work and where I could buy one? It must be wireless between the phone and the unit that blows the horn.

I'm not really concerned about cost. I left my regular job to care for my parents to keep them out of the nursing home as long as possible. I own a tractor-for-hire service to earn income while making myself available to care for them, so I must be reachable by cell phone at all times. Daddy says "Getting old ain't for sissies!"

hi,

a Parrot brand bluetooth kit has a mute output which you could use to trigger a horn relay, or a light of course.  shouldn't be hard to wire up.  the bluetooth kit should pair with your phone once the ignition is turned on.  other bluetooth kits may have mute outputs also... some motorola pieces state they do, but i have found that to be the opposite.

I just looked at those. It looks like it basically replaces the phone so you can talk hands free while driving. The tractor is too loud for that. I just need something to blow the horn when the phone rings, then I can shut down the tractor and answer the phone. Thanks for the response though.

That is the only way you can get a negative out to drive a relay to make it turn on a light or a horn.  You are turning the tractor off either way, that is just the only way to do what you are asking.

it will give a mute signal before you answer the call. what/how you choose to answer the call is your choice.
