I've a Motorola IHF1000 cell-phone carkit that has line level speaker outputs to allow usage of the sound system speakers instead of the small remote speaker they include. I have an aftermarket stereo system that has low level line outs going to amps, as well as a mute input which the IHF1000 will feed. What is the best way to connect the IHF1000 audio line outs to those of my sound system?

I would suggest wiring the speaker outputs straight to the speakers themselves. I can't recommend wiring them to your amps(using hi-lo converters, you might find that when you answer the call you will recieve instant feedback though the system, stick to your front door speakers and don't bother with the rear speakers. The thing to realise is that you will never get quality out of the phone system, so you need to go for ease of use and installation. Failing that, just use the external speaker that came with the kit mounted up underneath the dash.....with the speaker having to fire through the plastic paneling, it will reduce the chances of feedback and echo.

The other reason I usually install the supplied speaker is that when Text messages come through, they usually wont trigger the radio mute and as such, will not go through the car speakers so you wont be alerted when ones come through. Also I don't what car it is going into but I know with the australian Holden Commodore (Pontiac GTO) the other reason not to feed the signal through the amps is that your head unit must always be switched on for it alert you, as the amps must be switched on unless your amps are triggered differently then using the trig wire on the head unit.
The other thing that I quite often do to these kits is install both extra speaker and audio piping to your car speakers that way you have it through your speakers and can still be alerted when a message comes through or if the head unit is switched off....e.g. you switch the car off whilst still on a call.
