I am trying to install my VHF, I use on the fire dept, into my 2005 Cavalier. I had it installed in my old car without any problems. Howver I'm not to sure how to install in the Cav. Everything is mounted and all wires are run. SHould I connect directly to the battery as my Hyundai or connect through the fuse box. Regardless I'm not sure how to do either. The battery itself has no place to connect to because it's all prewired and I have no idea how to connect it through the fuse box. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You can connect the battery wire for your VHF to the main power input to the underhood fuse box next to the battery. There you should find an 8 gauge cable from the battery to the fuse box attached with a bolt. Install an inline fuse holder close to the fuse box. For ground, you should attach to a section of the body inside the car that is clean and free of paint. There is a flange of painted steel that the steering column mounts to that would be good to use. Scratch away the paint and screw in your ground wire. If your radio requires an accessory turn on, use the thich brown wire coming from the ignition switch. It is the accessory wire. You can find it in a thick section of split loom above the driver's kick panel. This connection should also be fused.

The last system I installed like this had only power and ground. I connected power to the 12v iginition (brown) in the steering column. I grounded using a grounding block. If you connect the power straight to the battery it will drain the system if you don't shut it down every time. Make sure you fuse.
