I have an Auto lights feature in my 2000 Taurus. It turns on the headlamps when it senses decreased light levels (dark out). Maryland law (think VA has the same) now requires that your headlights be on any time you are running your wipers for any length of time.

My question is if there is a way I could run a wire from my wipers to either the auto-light sensor output or maybe directly to the headlight switch so that my lights turn on when I run my wipers and so the setup doesn't interfere with any other features or cause funny problems (like my wipers turning on automatically when it get's dark out...)

WIPERS|white(L), blu/org(H)|+ |wiper motor

HEADLIGHTS|RED / yellow *2 |- |headlight switch
You'll need one relay

85 to ground, 86 to ethier the h or l wire on your wipers, your choice, 30 to ground, 87a not used, 87 to the red yellow head lite wire.

Is that the best way to do it? (Wiring into the headlight switch rather then the auto-on circuit)?

Yeah... and I'm new at this... How to I intrupret the above? (ASCII symbols and numberic references i.e. "85 to ground, 86 to ether...")

Ok, so say it's like sort-of dark out, and it's only
misting outside. So if you turn your wipers on and
off, wouldn't this make your headlights turn on and
off a lot? (assuming that it's not dark enough out
to have your headlights on) just curious:)

I would probably put the intermittent wipers into the lowest setting. It was actually one of my concerns that whatever line I choose will have some form of constant power regardless of which setting the wipers are on. (my wipers have about 10 speed varriations).
