i was testing to hook up some Micromax II lights [fire dept] and i think i may have accidentally crossed the wires just for a split second, some smoke did come out of it, but everything still seems to work fine? any clue as to what could have burned up? should i not bother in opening it to see any damage or just leave it since things are still in order

the type of light it is

Sounds like you burned a resistor and the only way to know if it truly needs to be replaced is to test it. To be honest, if the light is still working, chances are that it is OK and the smoke may have been just the resistor getting hot enough to burn some paint off of it. Again, the only way to truly find out is to test it. Hope this helps.

PS: Use this as a learning experience. In the future, use a fuse and ALWAYS double check your wires before connecting them to a power source.
