Here is an easy way to hook up a lights on buzzer using a 9-12v buzzer (check Radio Shack) and a diode. When the power is removed from the ignition switched line, it becomes a resistive path to ground. This allows the power to find its way to ground. When the ignition is on, there is no differential between the two buzzer leads. The diode keeps the power from backfeeding.
