I have a 91 Mazda RX7 and swapped original factory tail lights for Corvette tail lights. the wiring is different since I'm going from a 2 bulb (running lights) and 1 blinker per side to a combined running lights and blinker combination. I also want to make the blinkers alternate when they flash instead of simultaneously. What is the best way to do this?

I recently completed a project similar to this where I helped someone eliminate their turn signal and integrate it in to their brake light.  I achieved it with a custom programmed microcontroller driving two relays.

I would be careful changing too much about how they flash if you plan on driving the car on the road, as you may violate DOT regulations with any major function changes.
