I have a 94 chevy that im about to do a full custom dash in, and for the purposes of smoothing it out I want to take the stock headlight switch and replace it with a "on-off-on" rocker switch that im going to hide in the ash tray along with the switches for the windows. My question is, how would i go about wiring one switch so that when its flipped one direction, it turns on the parking lights, and when its flipped the other direction it turns on the parking lights and headlights. Im thinking i could wire the first pole (using relays of course) to the park lights and then wire the second pole to the park lights and headlights using diodes to prevent feedback. Is this the right idea...if so some sort of diagram would be helpful.

With a system like that I would do the floor switch for hi/low beams.

Well the high/low function is built into the steering column by way of the turn signal lever so i just need a switch
