hey all ,

I just joined today but have been using the site off and on for a little while now. nice to have a community to help eachother out. i wanted to post my findings on a  alternate signal, warning light problem that i read many posts for but was not given the little extra information to make it work.  I wanted to build this circuit for some lights on my truck. When i followed the wiring explanations it would not work so i tried to re read and re wire 3 times considering instructions where a little unclear. SO instead of just going flasher output to 86, ground to 85, one lamp to 87 and one lamp to 87a, 12 volts to 30( doesnt work) you have to

Ground pin 85/put one lamp power  to 87a/ batt power to pin 30/ flasher output to pin 86/ flasher output to other lamp/ ground lamps as normal and this works perfect. the other way doesnt work because it seems like there is not enough load to make the flasher operate normally and switch the relay. if this is unclear i may need to make a schematic. HOPEFULLY this helps someone i almost went mental trying the way i read.

Thats because a flasher will not activate and deactivate a relay coil.

yeah thats exactly right so wiring it in the way i described works, if you look at the way most people have posted on how to make that work it wont

i dont think ive ever seen anyone on here say to do it quite like that. but at any rate it can be done still, but you have to use an LED flasher.

and besides, why screw around with all that stuff you did anyway? just go buy an "ALTERNATING" flasher. they do make them you know? a good one is GROTE part number 44730. works perfect. posted_image

i dont play around with this stuff often so i don`t really know whats all out there for product along the lines of flashers but youve given me another part number to try out next time im at the local napa. also the guy had no idea what i was after and the flasher descriptions are terrible(  about what they do) in the parts books we were looking at.

i see. well NAPA carries signal stat so they wont have that flasher. but if there is a CARQUEST in your town they carry GROTE and if they dont have one they can order it. also the GROTE LED flasher which will make a relay coil activte and deactivate. i know, ive done it several times. ground one side of the relay coil, then the other side goes to "L" on the flasher and the other side "X" on the flasher to 12V. it will make the relay coil flash on and off, but it has to be that LED flasher or it wont work.

OKAY yeah thanks for the info id like to do it in a more compact and neat manner thus makeing a nicer install with out big homemade relay flashers HAHA i just wanted to get the point across that the way some have posted on how to make that circuit does not work.
