Hi,
I have Leds under my bed rails in my pick up truck to illuminate the bed of the truck! I currently have them wired to a 12v + on the dome light circuit. So anytime the dome light is on the bed lights are on.
I would like to wire a switch in the bed of my truck near the tailgate so that I can also switch these lights on and off from the rear of the truck? I have an illumiated rocker switch if that matters. I'm sure I can do this with a relay Im just not sure how to wire it? Could someone please help???? I plan to do this today or as soon as I get an answer of how to do it. Thanks for any and all of your time! ~Steve
the truck is a 2007 Dodge Ram 4X4 4 Door Quad Cab 5.9L Diesel if it matters.
if you're looking for a 12 volts output from the relay, single pole double throw i might add, wire it like this,
pin 30 and 86 to 12 volts constant fused at say probably 5 or ten amps depending on the type of lighting
pin 87 to the 12 volts wire of the lights in the bed,
using a normal toggle switch connect one side to ground and the other to pin 85 of the relay
one thing though if you would like the switch to turn on the bed lights alone and not the interior dome, you'll need a three amp diode connected from the switched 12 volts on the dome light to the 12 volts on the lights, bar facing away from the dome light wire. if you wire without the diode both lights will turn on and you may also cause a door ajar error. Also just a thought, to avoid complication since you say you have it connected directly to the dome light you can eliminate the relay and just use a 15 amp toggle switch one side to constant twelve fused at 5 or ten amps, and the other to the hot wire of the lights, the diode will still be needed though

you can simply run 12v into your switch and connect the output from the switch to the same wire from the dome circuit that turns them on now. if the switch is on however, it will also turn on the dome lights in the truck. if you do not want this happening place a diode inline on the wire coming from the domelight circuit with the band away from the domelight circuit and towards the led's.
HA! you beat me to it darren.
