New member here and tried the search feature but didn’t find my specific problem there.
My vehicle is a 2003 Chevy Tahoe. I want to add “under running board lighting” that comes on with the interior lights when the remote unlock is
triggered by the key fob.
I’d like to illuminate the ground at each door (somewhat similar to mirror mounted puddle lights) and fade out as the interior lights do upon entry.
I don’t need 15 million colors, sound options or 15 different display options that some of the 'kit' vendors offer… just simple illumination under each
running board. Oh, and I'd like it to be somewhat less than a weeks pay.
Either LED or regular bulb lights will work for me and plan to attach to the running board braces. I figure a minimum of 4 lights (one at each door).
Question 1
Can I simply tap into the door courtesy light wiring for this (on each side) ?? and will the circuit handle the additional lights ??
Question 2
Can’t figure how to wire using a relay and maintain the fade option ??? Is there a better location to use for source voltage… i.e. at fuse panel or other
connection point ???
Question 3
If possible can you suggest a supplier (if LED is the way to go) and location to make connections to existing wiring… and while I’m begging…. wiring
color codes to tap into.
I’ve done a little looking around and your site is very impressive and offers a ton of good info… thanks in advance for your help

you can add anything,.,,,, just use relays, those things are great!!!! pull the knee bolster(the plastic under the steering wheel) off youll need a 7mm socket. once you do this on the bcm, to the far right there is a plug, there should be three wires on it theres a orange one and a gray with a black stripe. use the gray with the black stripe it is a positive trigger, but youll need to add a relay and fuse it. if you do not know how to wire up a relay send me your e-mail ill send you a diagram its simple man,

installers do it best. we got the magic hands!
thanks man... I know about relays.. in fact wrote an article explaining their function for my buddies on the Ford Enthusiasts site. I understand I can pici up the relay trigger voltage at the column wiring... but will it maintain that cool fade out when it shuts down...???? seems like that connection point would just turn the relay on/off... where do I pick up the power source for the lights that also does the fade... ??
thanks for the reply
