I am wondering what type of leds they use in the led underbody kits. From what i can tell is that they are really small leds.

It would depend - they would have to be something very bright and preferably something with a very wide viewing angle.  They could be surface mount or through hole, depending on the manufacturers requirements/specifications.

I believe they are the SMD type LED.
