I have a 2003 VW jetta I am trying to install an aftermarket D2S Hid kit and im having problems with it.

the daytime running lights are disabled...

the problem is I already killed a passenger side ballast, the symptoms were, there was a popping sound over the speakers when i switched the lights on, and most of the time only the driver side light came on. I had to switch them off, then on for the passenger side to turn on. until one day the passenger side ballast was dead.

I just got the replacement ballast and redid my relay harness with thicker wire. on the first attempt only the driver side light came on...again. after the 2nd time the lights came on fine but the speakers still popped when I first switched the lights on. after a couple more test runs, only the passenger side light turns on and the drivers side does not.

questions:

the 86 and 85 pins on the relay are connected only to the driver side headlight positive and negative wires. could this be the cause of my issue?

what could be the reason my speakers pop when i first turn on the lights? if the lights have been on and i turn them off then on, they dont pop the speakers, only during the first switch on.

I apologize for the novel, but I dont want another ballast to go out and i dont know what to do at this point.

thanks

this is how they are wired

Thats exactly how I have my aftermarket HID's hooked up on both my vehicles and I have zero problems. My truck has been hooked up since JAN and my nAltima has had the HID's since May. No problems on either vehicle. I would check the ground on your radio, that may be the root of your popping. Also, try grounding the radio's chassis as well, that may help.

i dont think the radio is a problem because the speakers pop only when I switch the hids on for the first time.

u might be gettin interference from the location of ur ballast. Where did u get your kit from?

im might be too close to your abs module if its located in the same place as audis have it. But im not 100% sure if this fixed the problem.

is it normal for the speakers to pop when I first ignite the lights? where is the abs module?

What kind of kits are they ? Do they have digital ballasts? The wiring is correct as far as I can tell, but one way to rule out interference is to temporarily have the ballasts outside of the engine bay and turn on the lights. If you still have the speaker pop issue, then remove pin 86 from the light harness and manually add 12+ to this wire and listen for the pop.
