rear camera used in the front

I installed a camera which was originally designed to go on the rear to the front of my car. Now the image is reversed and whatever is on the right of the car shows up on the left of the screen and vice versa.

How can I fix this?

Is there something I can do with the wiring or will I have to take the camera apart or get a new camera?

Get a new camera and make sure you get one that either has the optionj to reverse the image or buy it so that it is designed to output a reversed image.

If the monitor uses a picture tube, as opposed to being a flat screen, you can reverse the pic just by reversing the connections to the deflection coils on the neck of picture tube.

Be careful not to get too close to the high tension lead on the side of the pic tube, or you can get a hell of a shock. By rights, and for maximum safety, you should ground that lead, discharging the capacitive effects of the tube before beginning. Most of all, do not work with the monitor connected to power.

Probably twenty years ago, a friend of mine acquired a locomotive-sized RV, and bought a video camera system so he could back it up. But the camera gave a view as if one were looking out the rear window, which is counter-intuitive if you're trying to back a vehicle. You nee a "rear view mirror" image.

I reconnected the deflection calls, and gave him a mirror-image view, which is what you are talking about having, and wanting to undo.My friend had not even understood the problem he was having, until I did a lot of "chalk talking" to explain it.

Alpine now makes a front view camera, you may want to look into this.
