What is the appropriate gauge wire to use when drawing about 0.5A over a 10 foot span?

1/2 an amp of current can be handled by a 22 AWG wire.  However, I do not like using anything lighter than 18 AWG wire.  reason for that is the thickness (or lack there of) of the insulation on some smaller wires.
