Would it be possibly to convert a high wattage halogen work light into a working light on my truck? I need to get some insight on the actual requirements. It wont be used for long periods either.

They would be mounted behind my grill and only used for short periods.

I would modify a mount and custom mount the lights. Here is an example of the light:

These things really light up.

A 300W or bigger inverter....

It'll take ~30A from your battery.

why not go with something designed for the automotive world, you'd be amazed what you can do with good HID lighting?

x2! Behind a grill implies flood or forward lighting (maybe subversive) - and there should be heaps of 12V (or 24V) solutions.

Powering those AC halogens for sort periods isn't too good - lots of thermal shock.
And if on whilst driving, they are prone to break. (Long filaments - very weak!)

...that and they put out so much directional heat that if your grill is plastic it is liable to melt and if metal become a vertical bar-b-que
