Hi Guys, Newbie her so forgive me if i make any silly errors!!! lol

So to my  first question.

Does anyone have info on how to make a shift light? I know that at one end you need to interpret the Tacho pulse from the ecu and at the other end you need a led (or more) but im looking for the components and wiring info in the middle?

Thanks in advance

Rory

I take it that nobody knows with the amount of replies this has had! lol

Someone must have some idea what is involved??? without obviously going out and buying one! lol

All suggestions are very welcome.

seriously, it can be done but i dont think it is really practical, I never bothered trying but as far as i know it is a AC signal from about 0-6V RMS, so you could rectify it, then run it on a POT to adjust the rev point and an LED. I dont think it would be all that difficult but i never bothered trying because they are not that expensive to purchase.

Thanks xetmes, i know it would be far more simple to go and buy one but making it is half the fun!lol

I like the sound of your idea, any more info on offer?

Cheers

Try an MSD 'window' controller. With that, I think you can trigger a unit of any sort set at a certain RPM.

But what is a MSD window controller? What does it do? How much is it? etc? Any links?

Cheers guys

Same here, I mean, what is a shift light? Is it a fancy word for tachometer?

many tachs have them ,it is a light that comes on at a certain RPM, to tell you when to shift

I've always said a stupid question is far easier to fix than a stupid mistake. An MSD window controller is an electronics box which allows a particular function to operate at a preset (by you) RPM. I don't remember if these can be made to operate 'stand-alone' or if they operate from an MSD ignition box- which is a very expensive route to a shift light. Xetmes has the better idea- go buy one. Cheaper in the long run, and you have some sort of warranty if it packs up. Try the links I gave, and there are several places here to buy either part online. I have no clue where to buy these parts in the UK. If you really want to go the DIY route, contact me by private messenger and I'll try to help you sort it out.
