What diode do I need for this?

OR........

do you know of a better way to wire it that I would have this issue?

Normally switching is used for isolation, though normally the same flasher can is used for flashers and hazards.
The switching does 3 things: change the can supply from normal (IGN) to constant; join left lamps to right; and bypass (short out) the left/right switch (ie, connect can output to L&R lamps).


Otherwise, a 5A diode should suffice.
