Ok firstly Im not a complete electronic wiz my knowledge isn't super high but I usually get by.

Wanting to rewire my rear interior lights in my 4wd so that I can leave tailgate open and switch lights on and off.

So far I think the problem I am having is I need a double pole switch instead of a single pole.

Am using pre wired led lights for 12volt (6 in total), single pole double throw center off switch, exsisting door switch.
Items from jaycar
Lights SL-3951
Switch SK0991

So I want the switch to work center off, 1 side lights on if door open, other side lights on regardless of door being open

Made abit of a diagram not the greatest as I used paint but it shows roughly what I been trying to do hope it makes sense.

Do not ground the LEDs. Connect their ground connections to the center leg of the switch. Connect ground to the terminal you labeled right. Connect the left terminal just as you have it depicted.

... except with centre-off - IOW door & off positions swapped.

The pic above depicts traditional cabin light wiring.
