I purchased a pair of 30's era Guide 682C headlights with a parking light on top. The parking light is a single wire with a ground and I want to use it for both parking and turn signals. I think I need a resistor and a couple of diode to make this single wire light do double duty as a parking/turn signal BUT I have no idea how to do it. Any help along with a diagram and required resistors/diodes would be greatly appreciated.

This might be an option for you or if you do not want LED style, maybe retrofit an 1157 light and socket into the housing.

Can the socket be changed out ?. The single contact socket had to be put in somehow and depending on if it's a single contact 1156 bulb and you were to use an 1157, the bulbs are pretty much the same in dimensions and it would boil down to how to change the socket out.

I'm helping with a build on a "T" and the old headlights, as well as the old school taillights he has will have the guts changed to house newer lighting and it's going to require some fabrication.

On a Nova site I'm on, a member is doing this for his taillights and something like that could be done if filament type of bulbs are not used.

The bulb and socket on the left is what I am trying to convert to turn/parking light. The bulb on the right is a typical 1157 bulb and I do not want to modify the headlight
bucket to accept the larger bulb.

Would it be alright to have the single filament bulb dim for when the parking lights are on but then full brightness when the turn signal is activated ?.

I think it could be done this way with a resistor and some diodes. I had a diagram going but I need to fine tune it and post it as I might not be seeing something that could be incorrect.

I got a diagram for the installation. My question is in regards to DIODES. While shopping for diodes I come across an 18 volt 5 watt Zener Diode and a 3 amp diode and a 1.0 amp 50 volt Standard D recovery diode. WHAT is the difference? What Diodes do I need to complete this installation?
