Hello,

I've got 2014 Kia Forte Koup SX with these fog lights. They have a ring of LEDs on the outside with a halogen bulb on the inside. I want to separate the circuits so I can have the LEDs on with my parking lights and the halogens left on the regular fog light circuit.

However, I've opened them up and checked out the wiring. Seems they are running in series since when I cut out the halogen bulb and tried to power the circuit without them, the LEDs wouldn't light. Even when I shorted the circuit by connecting the leads for the halogen bulb by connecting them together so the circuit was whole, the LEDs still wouldn't light up.... so I feel like they are running in series and somehow using the resistance from the halogen bulb regulate the current for the LEDS.

I also tried replacing the halogen bulb with a 50w 6ohm load resistors to simulate the load of the halogen bulb in the circuit, but still the LEDs wouldn't light.

There is some kind of circuit board chip that main power enters, does something, and then sends power to the halogen bulb. Could something in this circuit board be checking for something in the halogen bulb circuit which allows the LEDs to run? I don't think this light is that smart, but it may be since a simple load resistor didn't work. Best guess diagram attached.

I took current and voltage measurements but not sure if they make sense. First I measured current and voltage with both LEDs and halogen. Then measured current and voltage of only the halogen bulb. I think I calculated correctly resistance and power, but not 100% sure. Total power would be 5.5a and halogen bulb only at 5.2a; which means that LEDs consume 0.3a if in series and current is cumulative?

Any ideas of how to separate the circuits? I've seen it done on other guys from Korea. https://blingblingcs.blog.me/220728935628

Thanks for the reply. Forgot about this site.

I can tell that that schematic is for my Kia Forte... but not really sure what it means. Feel like there are missing pages or descriptions. Where did you get that? Do you think I'll be able to track it down somewhere?
