I have a 1995 Buick Lesabre the interior lights Are very dim when you open the doors. What could I check ?

well keep in mind that buicks are for real old people and you don';t want them opening the door ona dark night and having a stroke cause tey think that the sun just came back on. for real though

they might be a low wattage bulb?

the dimmer light that causes the dash light to dim might have somthing to do with it?

Check on of the lights with a dmm set it to VDC find a good ground for it and ckeck the power coming into the light is it 11-14.4 volts or is it less? if it is less chance's are there is a bad ground somewhere in the system.

What exactly do you mean by interior lights? which lights exactly?

the lights that come on inside the car when you open the doors.

I think the bulbs are the originals.

I don't think the switch that dims the dashlights does any thing to dim the interior lights,

do you think it could be the little button that makes and breaks in the door jamb?

I will check the bulbs for proper wattage, and check the voltage at each light and check for a good ground

The door jamb switches only tell the BCM if a door is open. The BCM then grounds the white wire to the interior lights. Do as overcranked23 suggested. Measure the voltage between the orange and white wires at any light. If it is below 12 volts with the engine off, you may have a wiring problem. Measure the voltage at the battery. Most Buicks and Cadillacs have enough interior lights to light up Wrigley Field and cause the battery to discharge rapidly if left on for a few minutes on older cars. If the lights get brighter with the engine on consider having your battery tested to see if it OK.
