I'm the less than-proud owner of a 93 saturn sl1, and I'm currently working on upgrading to HID conversion headlights.  Can somebody tell me what the gauge wiring for headlamps is for most gm vehicles?  Also, should I upgrade the gauge of the wire for HID lamps?  If so, by how much?  Thanks for any help!

Usually GM uses 16- or 18-gauge wiring for their lights. Assuming you're hooking up true HID as opposed to "HID-look" regular bulbs, you shouldn't need to use larger wire. HID bulbs actually draw less current - kind of like how fluorescent bulbs in a house are brighter but use less energy.
