I have a 2000 F-250SD V10 that has recently developed a problem.  I had a remote starter installed in it about 4 years ago and I think this point may be significant.  Recently, when I turn my headlamp switch on, my dash lights do not come on, my tailights do not come on and my stereo/compass lights do not dim.

I first thought this a fuse, but then I walked up on my truck when my remote starter had control of it, and my dash lights are flashing every few seconds as well as my tailights.  I looked through all fuses, not just the ones that had anything to do with either lights, and I find them all in order.

It looks like it might be a relay problem?  Could that be it.  There are only 5 relays listed in my owners manual and the listing is a little thin as I don't really know what they control, even after reading about them.  It seems likely that the relay that the remote starter uses to flash the lights, is working fine.  Could there be a problem or short with where this relay was installed?

I'm struggling here.  I live in a very remote area and nobody knows anyting about this stuff around here.  I had the starter installed in a bigger centre and can't get anywhere to get this fixed this winter.  The no dashlights is annoying, but the no tailights thing is dangerous.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you have the V10 do you have a trailer hitch wiring? can you splice your tail lights into that temporarily until someone can fix the problem? sorry i cant be more helpful.

I have the trailer hitch wiring, yes.  I havn't checked to see if they actually work yet either though.  I'll check that tonight if it gets warmer than -25.

I have a 2000 Ford F-250 SD V10 with a Viper Remote Starter in it.  Recently, the tailights, running lights, dash lights and warning bong for headlights on with door open have all quit working.  Curiously enough, when the remote starter has control of the truck, these things all work fine.  I'm assuming that the remote starter relay that flashes the lights, bypasses the circuit that has failed.  I'm just at a loss as to where to look.  All fuses inside the cab and under hood are fine.  Any ideas?

The wire they probably tapped into should be brown (+12v) at the headlight switch... clip the wire from the remote starter and check for (+12v) when you turn the switch on,. it sounds like a bad switch.. or the factory wire broke at the switch side... If the lights work when the RS runs then the problem is probably at the switch itself.. not anything after it...
