Hi guys,
I have a friend who would like to have daytime running lights on his 1985 chev truck. I have done somesearching of this site without any luck. I know it has probably been done here somewhere , but I can't find.
Probably a two relay setup, but would like to know how it has been done by others.
He would like to use the high beam of the existing headlights.
Thanks, Roy
the way i have done them is one relay
pin30 =12volts constant
pin 87= out to high beam
pin 86 =12volts switched ie: =pink at ign harness
pin 85 = brown park light wire
how it works is the lights come on with the key but if you turn on park lights ground goes away thus closing the relay.and turning off high beams . make sure your realy is diode isolated across the coils. you can use 2 relays and do the same thing and also tie in the parking brake like the manufacture does. but if i am not mistaken the 95 comes prewired for it just need to add 2 relays check with the chevy dealer parts dept that should be a free call the worst they can say is no.
There are special drl modules available. This is likely the best way to go. You could also do it with relays quite simply but this have lights on at full brightness. I would also suggest using low beams and not hi beams as if I see him with his hi beams on I will run him off the road. :D j/k but it is quite distracting to other drivers.
