I am hooking up some neons on my car and I am trying to get them to come on when I arm and disarm my alarm. I know I can do this by running a relay off of my dome light to the neon's....however, I am not sure exactly how to connect the relay? Also, where in the circuit should I install a switch so I can turn them on when I want to?

It is simple to do. What kind of car will depend on how you wire the relay, so what kind of car?

Alright, the wire in the car should be yellow/black and should be found above the passenger's kick panel. Take this wire and wire it like the diagram below.
The - input is the domelight activation wire. The output goes to the neon's + wire. To add a toggle switch you will need to place a diode inline with the - input wire and tage the switch between the diode and relay to prevent the switch from turning on the domelight. As far as arm and disarm, arm probably won't happen. Disarm will turn the lights on if the alarm has the domelight supervision wired up. ------------- Certified Security Specialist

Well, I don't know of any alarms that turn the domelights ON when you arm it. But when ever the domelight turns on the neon will turn on.

do you think it might be better than to run it off of the parking lights then? also, is that relay a sdsp?

thinking a little more about what you said about the neons being on anytime the dome is turned on is not really what i am looking for. basicly, i want the neons to be able to turn on and off with a toggle switch and to also activate when i arm and disarm the system. that is the only time i want them to light. any other suggestions to achieve this? also, thanks for your help!

Parking lights is probably a bad idea. You can use the alarm's domelight supervision wire and have that control the relays instead of the actual domelight wire. It will come on only with the alarm and the switch. Relay type in this situation isn't a problem, you can use either a SPST or SPDT and it will work fine.

ok, i am going to try to make this the last post so you dont get annoyed with me. The supervision wire is the yellow/black wire? Is there any certain kind of diode that is best to use and exactly how do i input it into the circuit? Do i just solder it to the wires and tape it up? Also, to clarify you said that it will only turn the neons on with the alarm and the switch. By switch do you mean the toggle that I want to add or the factory dome light switch. Thanks for all your help.

The yellow/black is the car's domelight wire. If you DON'T want the neons to come on with the domelight the DON'T use this wire. If all you want the neons to come on with is the alarm then you need to locate the alarm, find out which wire is domelight supervision wire and use this wire to activat the relay instead.
Alarm must be aftermarket to use the alarm only, on with arm(if alarm does this) and disarm.
Switch mentioned would be an add on aftermarket toggle switch.
A standard 1 amp diode is fine since you are dealing with low current(only activating a relay).
