i have a set of hella driving lights on my car.
i want them to be on with the driving lights but they are too bright, they are 55W bulbs, i would like to know what resistor i should use to reduce the power to a much lower level
id like them to just glow dimmly

You could wire them in series.. or use pulse width modulation to dim them.. resistors to do this would be fairly large.. probably in the range of 30w power rating. Jim

Get a potientiometer that is in the range of wattage, or just go the "Home Depot" and get a wall dimmer switch.

wow... im not sure what pulse width mod or potentiometers are, i might actually do the home depot thing and find somewhere to hide it, that way i can adjust it to my liking

I 'could' be wrong but. . . .the home light dimmers operate on 110~120vac. Internally they use a Triac to control the attached light. I'm fairly certain you can't use one of these devices to control your 12vdc lights. Good luck with your project.

If your driving lamps are too bright then you are using the wrong kind of lamp.
There are 2 kinds of auxilary lamps- fog and driving. Fog lamps are used to supplement the low beams and driving lamps are to supplement the high beams.

is there any way you could drill a hole and install a wee side light bulb in a gromet and wire it to your existing sidelights or something simmilar? ive been thinking of doing this for a while but never got round to it as yet. Hope this helps Richard
