I am looking into installing some White LED backup lights that will go on when Reverse is selected. I want to make sure that I can get the light I need back there, and was wondering if LED's are comparable in brightness to say a 55w lamp.

you would need about 6 superbrite in a close configuration with a good designed reflector per side to be close.
