I have an 87 Firebird that I'm fixing up. Like many other Firebird owners, I'm tired of the headlights not working properly and am ready to fix them. I wanted to check with you all and get your opinion before I did anything since everyone has been so helpful in the past and everyone in this forum seems to be electrically inclined.

The lights themselves come on when I turn them on but don't flip up. I have to manually raise them each time. They will go down with the switch, but not up. Because the lights turn on, I am thinking that the switch is fine. Also, I put new motors on each light. I believe that the only other thing that could be wrong is that the headlight control module is dead.

Does anyone have experience with this type of vehicle or familiar with this type of headlight setup? Corvettes and Fieros have the same lighting system.

Any advice is appreciated!

Break out your multimeter and start testing your wires for the harness that controls the light. What you might have to do is find the trigger wire and use a relay to activate the motor instead of using the HCM ( headlight control module).
