I am trying to wire lighted running boards into my dome light circuit, but I can't see a door switch that turns the dome lights on.  Does anyone know where I can connect a relay that would power on when the door is opened on a 2005 GMC Envoy SLE?

connect it to the under dash light. this will activate with the interior illumination.

You could use the gray/black (+ trigger) @ the overhead domelight to trigger your relay. This would turn on the running board lights whenever a door is opened. Easiest way is to just pop the domelight out and run a wire up to it. The downside to this is that because the lights dim out, your relay is going to make an ugly buzzing noise everytime the lights go out. The work around is to use ALL the seperate door triggers (diode isolated of course) or rig something up to the relay to keep it from buzzing. I believe some use a capacitor to accomplish this but don't remember offhand I've never had to do it. Good luck,

Mike

how about an alarm...does it have one?  and if it does  ....why not hook it to the illumination out. so every time you disarm it will come on.

or use a timer off the unlock wire.
