Hi,

I've posted questions here a couple of times before and everyone seems to be helpful, so here we go again.

I have an 87 Firebird and I'm trying to wire four individual LEDs so they come on when the door is open. I have found the socket that the courtesy bulb goes in, and there is an orange wire and a white wire. I know that the orange is the 12v, but I'm not sure about the white. Is this the ground or what actually turns the bulb on when the door is opened? How would I wire the LEDs to this to make them come on when the door is opened? Also, the LEDs are currently installed to a switch on my dash. Anyway to keep this feature in addition to the LEDs becoming my new courtesy lights?

Any help is appreciated!

The white wire is the ground for the dome lamps. It goes to ground when any door is opened or if you turn the dash dimmer control to the dome light on position. If you have a circuit for the LED's you can use orange and white wires to activate it. Remember though the orange wire is 12 volts. Check to see what your LED's require to prevent them from burning out.

So I can get this to work by wiring the ground for the lights into the white wire and the power into any orange or does the power have to be hooked into the orange in the courtesy light socket? Also, how can I wire this up so I still have control of the LEDs while the door is closed via a dash switch?
