i want to turn on the leds i have in my cup holder with the ext. 3 function on my alpine sec-8028 alarm. would i need a relay for this, and how would i go about wiring this up? Thanks, John

It depends on the output of your alarm. Typically outputs are between 100 and 500 mA. It also depends on how many LEDs you have and how much current you want each one to run off of. You would hook the ext output to the (-) side of the LEDs and then hook the (+) side to 12vdc. You will also want to use a current limiting resistor, based on the number/current of your LEDs. You will also need a latching ext channel. ------------- Kevin Pierson

it has a 200 mA output and i want 12 volts into the leds, ive already got all the resistors set up. my alarm does have a latching ext channel, its ext. channel 3 i beleve , so just hook it straight up?

You should be able to hook it up directly if you have the resistors in place.

i hooked it all up but they turn off when i release the the button, how can i wire it up so they will stay on? Thanks, John

You need to set it to latching output, if possible.
